Mrs. Clark's Grading Policy!

Grades for K-5 Students:
I hope to use my experience as a teacher, and as an artist, to provide your child with an art education that is exciting, affirming and enriching. Know that your child‘s art grade will not be based on talent or skill. Good attitude, positive behavior and effort are the keys to excelling in my classroom. I will also complete simple assessments that measure whether your child understands basic art concepts. Finally, an occasional homework assignment (that is easy and fun) will provide your child with bonus art points. For middle school students, homework will be a fraction of your child’s grade.I believe there is an artist inside every child. I hope to team with you to help your child express his/her unique gifts and talents. I invite you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s needs in my classroom. By joining together, we can support your son/daughter in becoming everything he/she can be!

Middle School Grades and Assessments:
The grading system for middle school art is designed so that all students can be successful. Effort grades are worth 40% of your child's grade. An effort grade will be assigned at the end of each unit.Skill grades are worth 40% of your child's grade. Skill grades will be assigned, upon the completion of projects, using student/teacher assessments. These assessments are designed so that all students who put forth their best effort will have a positive evaluation. Students will be given an opportunity to evaluate their own artwork alongside their teacher, making each learner a part of their own grading process. When your child’s portfolio comes home at the end of the semester, you will be able to see the accompanying assessments. Assessments will often include suggestions to help your learner develop artistically. Please reinforce these suggestions at home to help your child grow as an artist.Quizzes are worth 10% of your child's grade. Students that pay attention in class will have no difficulty doing well on quizzes.Homework is worth 10% of your child's grade. Homework is due the day after it is assigned. 25 points will be deducted from homework grades for each day a homework assignment is late. There will be only a few short homework assignments.
